change is inevitable but my love for art and wonton soup will always remain.
snappy chihuahuas, still art, and the newness of it all.
Unless you live under a rock or have confined yourself to a bunker, you and everyone else around you are experiencing some form of change whether it’s voluntary or not. These changes may have manifested in your career, love, family, friendships or even internally and if you are like me, a taurus, lets just say change isn’t always welcomed here with ease. These past few months I’ve learned to expect the unexpected, allow change and experience life in new and different ways. Also, after unexpectedly being chased by two chihuahuas on my lunch break walk (message me for details), I am growing more accustomed to just rolling with whatever life throws at me. With that being said, I’m fully invested in what I can control and that’s my mindset and how I interact with all the newness and as a result; I’m choosing to be an active participant in curating happiness each day. Even if it’s me as the main character of a movie kicking off my neighbor’s snappy chihuahuas on a sunny afternoon stroll. Anyways, this post is really about many things that has brought me joy lately and what will always remain a constant influence which is my interaction with ART in all forms.
The Museum of Latin American Art
Whenever I feel inspired and charged up, I like to surround myself with creative influences whether it be dance, music or art. It’s what fuels me to keep one foot in front of the other as I do this life thing. I had every intention of spending my Saturday exploring the universe and one day I’ll get to Griffith Observatory but the way that LA traffic is set up I’ll have to better plan my days or make it a day trip with someone who visits me. This time around I just explored the beautiful campus of The Museum of Latin American Art right in my own neighborhood.
If you follow me on IG, then you’ve seen the story recap, however, I really did enjoy my visit so much so I even stayed for their paint and sip programming. The current exhibits were refreshing to see and challenged me to view art from a cultural lense. From the sculpture garden to the “Abstract Art Beyond Frame” exhibit, I was able to get lost in the different rooms and explore on a random Saturday afternoon.
Before I walked in to the exhibit “Fernando Botero: El Maestro” I overheard some of the staff chatting and one lady yelled out in amusement “OH! I just love Botero because he paints people that look like me”. I paid no attention to what she looked like at first but when I turned the corner the figures that he painted were all round, exalted with womanly features. I glanced back over to her and instantly understood lol
I’m so glad I was able to view Botero’s work before I attended the paint and sip because that instructor put us to work on capturing still art and I had no idea what I was doing but I rolled up my sleeves and went to work on those oil pastels and created my own interpretation. Take a look, how’d I do? Not bad for a first timer.
If you’ve made it this far in the post, just know I appreciate you taking time out to read it. I’d like to now to know ways in which you are positively responding to the change in your life - drop some love in the comments or shoot me a message. We’re all in this together!
And if you’re in the Los Angeles/Long Beach area, please direct me to the best wonton soup spot in town. Ya girl is deprived out here.
Okay BYEEEEEEEE ❤️
OMG I got the opportunity to visit Botero’s plaza full of artwork statues and museum permanent exhibit March 2022 in Colombia 🇨🇴! It was amazinggggggg 💜.
