I’m writing this on Friday, January 10 at the 7 AM hour with an air quality index of 133 in Long Beach. Not nearly as unhealthy as other parts of Los Angeles County directly in the fire zones but at about 35 miles away I can feel the affects and it’s heartbreaking and scary to witness. I’ve been here before—experiencing California’s fire history back in 2020 when Napa went up in flames, and the Bay Area sky turned red—but this time feels extraordinarily different.
News travels way faster than I can keep up on social media so it feels like the whole world is watching in real-time as people from all socioeconomic backgrounds are evacuating and becoming displaced from their homes.
Community care has kicked in and although I am overwhelmed and grateful for the outreach to make sure I’m okay— I’m good and my loved ones are safe— I can’t help but want to redirect that care to those in worse situations than me.
There’s been an overwhelming amount of resources shared on the interwebs so I’d like to use this post as an active composition of resources that I’ll keep updated.
